MARIETTA, GEORGIA – What a fantastic day at Park Street Elementary with Orbit Earth Expo! We had a blast working with all the kids in grades K-5 as we explored rotation and revolution with our 14′ earth model and scale-sized moon. 3rd through 5th graders, do you remember the things that were right and wrong about our teaching models? The moon was the right size (3.5′), but what was the limitation?

It’s so hard to get models right, so that’s why we bring the right size earth to go with our 5′ sun model – the kids were so surprised to find out it was just the size of a marble. Makes you feel kind of small, doesn’t it?

The K-2 students found patterns in our solar system and learned how many trips around the sun they have made. We traveled to Africa, Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and South America to figure out how the rotation of the earth creates the patterns of our days and nights!

In grades 3-5, we dug deeper and explored eclipses, seasons, tides, winds, and acted our the entire solar system. Did you know it takes Jupiter 12 years to orbit the sun? Wow!

Thanks, Park Street, for letting us be a part of your STEAM Day! We hope you had as much fun as we did!
